When I lost my grandfather, I felt a void was left in the space he once occupied in my life. I was grief-stricken for some time. Now that I acknowledge loss as a natural part of path progression, I realize anger was mixed in with my sorrow. I was sad that I lost my grandfather, but I was also angry that he left me, his grandson.
Whether we lose a person, job or any other element in our lives, when we experience loss two natures rise in us: grief and pride. Grief emerges out of what it meant to us; pride emerges due to what we meant to it. Grief occurs when you think of the end of your relationship; pride occurs when you think of the end of your ownership. We control or own nothing but ourselves, so when we lose something, we should focus on the purpose and not the possession of what we once had.
